About this activity
Itinerary

At the top of the gondola, the guide will outfit you with a harness and helmet. The group then hikes for 30-45 minutes across the base of the glacier. There is a small scrambling section before we clip into the safety cables and begin climbing up. Step and grab onto the rungs to climb up. At halfway up, we stop for water, snacks and photos. Then we continue climbing up the peak of Whistler Mountain. In July and August we then take the Peak Chair down and hike back to the office to return the gear.

Confession - this was a bit overwhelming for me. I'm short, and not extremely limber, so there were points where I struggled to get from point A to Point B reaching from one hand/foothold to another. The altitude played a factor in it, also. There were a couple of points where I wanted to give up and pay big bucks for a helicopter rescue, but took some deep breaths, gathered some strength and made it to the next handhold. This 57 year old lady doesn't quit! But this is not a reflection on the tour itself, simply me stating that I'm not as young, strong, athletic and in-shape as I used to be! The great parts: our very patient and knowledgeable guide the scenery - snow in July, mountain and valley views the overall wow factor a sense of accomplishment. I never felt like we were in danger, I wasn't scared, and it was a seriously cool experience. I wanted this to be a challenge, and it was! To be honest, the descriptions made it sound easier than it was. Even my strong, athletic daughter found it to be physically challenging. Just be prepared, know your limits, bring some nutrition and water and a lot of fortitude, and enjoy.
