Beatrix Potter stayed here in the summer's of 1889 and 1895. She hunted fossils and fungi in the woods which she used to paint watercolour pictures from.

One of Beatrix Potter's favourite valley's. We pass Troutbeck park farm. Bought in 1923 and where she became an expert in breeding Herdwick sheep.

We take a brief stop at Waterhead in Ambleside situated at the head of Lake Windermere.

Beatrix was 16 when her parents rented Wray Castle. The family stayed there in 1882. One of her favourite rooms was the library.

Hawkshead is an ancient township that has flourished since Norse times, with many buildings dating from the 17th century. Whilst here we visit the Beatrix Potter gallery. The 17th century building, which was the office of her husband, has remained unaltered since his day. A significant selection of Beatrix Potter's original drawings and illustrations are on display at the gallery.

Bought in 1905 Beatrix Potter used the money she made from her first few books to purchase this little 17th century stone house. Samuel Whiskers, Jemima Puddleduck and Tom Kitten were all created here.

Miss Potter bought the Monk Coniston estate, which included Tarn Hows, for £15,000, in 1929. She then sold half of the estate to the National trust, and left the other half to the trust in her will.

Coniston water is one of the most imposing and beautiful of the English lakes. The Lake is dominated by the "Old man of Coniston" which rises to 803 metres.

Passing through the village of Coniston we come to Yew tree farm. Owned by the National trust. Beatrix bought the farm back in 1930 and saved it from being turned into a forestry plantation. This stunning and historical grade two listed building is one of the most famous farmhouses in the Lake District.
