What to Expect

Day 1: Arrival (D) (70 km)

Pick up from the airport. Drive-through Windhoek city tour, transfer to the lodge. (1 night)

Day 2: Namib-Naukluft Park, Sesriem Oasis (B,D) (350km gravel road) On the way to Namib Desert, traveling through Central Plateau, stop-over at the panoramic Spreetshoogte Pass and at Solitaire Oasis known for its famous apple pie. Wildlife: ostriches, antelopes, giraffes, wildebeest, baboons, bat-eared foxes, zebras, occasionally cheetahs. (2 nights at desert lodge)

Day 3: Desert Getaway: Soussusvlei, Dune 45, Dead Vlei (B,D) (290km gravel road)

Drive to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. Unique chance for landscape photography! Optional climbing Dune 45. 5 km off-road drive to Dead Vlei with its dried up acacias amidst the orange dunes. Optional hiking, Big Daddy’ dune, visit to Sossusvlei pan. After lunch, hike through Sesriem Canyon rock formations, sunset at Elim Dune.

Day 4: Atlantic Coast - Walvis Bay, Swakopmund (B, D) (240km gravel road)

From Namib-Naukluft Park, through dry Kuiseb and Gaub riverbeds, Tropic of Capricorn to the coast. (2 nights, Swakopmund)

Day 5: Coastal Adventure (B, D) (100km tarred road)

Moon Valley 'lunar landscape' and botanic attraction Welwitchia mirabilis.

Day 6: Cape Cross, Seal Colony (B, D) (350km gravel road)

Coastal salt-road to Cape Cross and the Cape Fur-Seal colony. Later, east to scenic Damaraland towards Brandberg Massif, passing by Damara villages, chance to buy semi-precious stones at the road-side stands. Wildlife: meerkats, jackals, ostriches, springboks. (1 night)

Day 7: Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings (UNESCO World Heritage), Damara Culture (B, D) (300km gravel)

Twyfelfontein – largest concentration of petroglyphs in Africa created by Bushmen recording ritual practices relating to hunter-gatherer communities. Cultural meeting with Damara tribe at the, Living Museum’. (1 night)

Days 8 & 9: Wildlife of Etosha National Park (B, D) (350km gravel/tarred road)

Etosha - one of the most loved parks of Africa! Afternoon till sunset game drive, variety of African wildlife roaming through the bush. In the evening, 'theater of nature' at the flood-lit waterhole. Day 9 - full day game drive (various regions/viewpoints/waterholes). (2 nights within the park)

Day 10: Return to Windhoek (B) (450km tarred road)

Morning game drive, traveling back to Windhoek, stop-over at the craft market in Okahandja.
