About this activity
The 5 hour walking tour start at your hotel in city center. We visit Many of the buildings visited are on the Yangon City Heritage List, a list of 188 man-made structures mainly consisting of religious landmarks and colonial-era buildings. Highlights include City Hall, the old railway station and the former Minister’s office where General Aung San was assassinated. Interspersed in the guided walk are various religious sites such as the St Mary’s Cathedral, built in 1899. You will be treated to a smorgasbord of structures and styles from the British colonial era: Victorian, Queen Anne, Neoclassical, Art Deco and an amalgam of British and Burmese. Then heading to the Sule Pagoda.
Sule Pagoda is located on the center of downtown Yangon. The pagoda itself was constructed using the basic form utilized in Indian architecture, but the embellishments and final design are of a Mon-style Burmese influence. The main pagoda is octagonal in shape. Explore and take some photos surround the pagoda and house a variety of Buddha statues before proceed to Botataung Pagoda.
We visit Botataung Pagoda and wander through the maze of donations on display, some are very old and all very interesting. You can join the queue and view it all through the glass. Have a look at 3 different Buddha: Indian, Chinese and Myanmar Buddha over the turtle pond. Visitors are queuing on the bridge over the turtle lake waiting to give their offerings and you can observe or walk around to take some great photos.
Finally, we will walk to the China town where you will taste many different kinds of local food at nigh time. Browse the variety of stalls filled with skewers ready to be grilled, and enjoy the bustling atmosphere of the neighborhood.
With your guide, sit down at a vendor for a cold beer or soft drink, and check out the barbecue items that your guide picks out for you or suggests from the array of meat and vegetable offerings. You can also try seafood. When your food arrives at your plastic table, indulge in your meal while talking about Yangon with your guide. Your tour ends with a walk to the fruit vendors for dessert before returning to the hotel
