About this activity
Day 1: Arrival Yogyakarta – Borobudur, Pawon & Mendut Temple

Upon your arrival at Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, your assigned guide will be waiting at arrival hall to directly escort you on a chauffeured vehicle to the biggest Buddhist monument in the world, Borobudur. Situated in Magelang regency and nestled between the Progo and Elo Rivers, this sacred 8th-century monument with the most complete ensemble of Buddhist reliefs to be found anywhere in the world is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Proceed your excursions to smaller temple of Mendut and Pawon built earlier than Borobudur Temple during the reign of King Indra from the Syailendra Dynasty. Mendut Temple has bas-relief of Hariti, the symbol of fertility, the patroness of motherhood and protector of children making it popular among local Javanese childless married couples. 1,5 kilometers westward from Mendut is Pawon Temple that contains a Buddha statue. Originally built to keep King Indra’s sacred weapon, the architecture and the relief carved on the wall resemble a blend of old Javanese Hindu and Indian art. Lying exactly in the central point of the straight line stretched from Borobudur to Mendut temple; these three temples are believed to have a mutual religious relationship. Transfer to your hotel of choice in the city center, check-in and the remainder of the day is free at leisure.
