A spectacular 2.5 hour open-air show, this presents a summarised version of the Ramayana epic with dancers and musicians, against the backdrop of the Prambanan temple. The package here includes a soft drink, which is nice, and an excellent view of the stage (I took 1st class which is marginally more, and gives you a more direct view of the action). You are free to take photos from your seat, and there are projected explanations in Bahasa and English, which makes the story easier to follow. Bear in mind the Prambanan temple is a little out of town - you’ll need to take a ~30 min taxi from Malioboro, and getting home afterwards can be tricky. It may be worth paying your taxi driver to stick around so they can take you back again afterwards, as it’s tricky to get a Grab or Bluebird at the end of the show in what is a relatively remote bit of the city.
