York has a rich and bloodthirsty history stretching back nearly 2000 years, and its little surprise that it is widely regarded as the most haunted city in the world. These personalised tours last approx. 2 hours and provide a totally unique, bespoke and entertaining history of Europe's most haunted city. Each tour is designed just for you, and your guides have over 200 ghost stories to tell so please get in touch with the local provider if you have any special interests or needs. You will be taken on an atmospheric trip round our ancient city and shown the fascinating hidden areas most tourists miss.

Refreshments can also be arranged along the way with some excellent coffee shops, pubs and restaurants to check out (own expense), and in addition will also tour other parts of the city too (the Castle, York Minster, Shambles and more) should you require. As your local tour guides are passionate about the city, they can also handle any restaurant bookings or just general advice about other things to do in York during your stay.

As these are bespoke tours, please contact the local provider as soon as you can in advance so your booking can be guaranteed and the guides have enough time to prepare the tour for your adequately.

The flavour of our tours is to tell the stories, but in a verified historic context. Please note your guides are not 'actors' and don't use props or get dressed up in Victorian outfits. What they will do is tell you the truth of the ghost story in that area, as well as backing it up with the history of the area and possible reasons for why that area is haunted.

Excellent tour for those looking for more than the typical ghost tour. The stories are based on factual information and extremely interesting. My husband was not feeling well and did not want to go but after the tour he was very happy he sucked it up and went. ps we went to the Valhalla Bar the next day ... great recommencement.

I would give this more stars if I could. It is a spendy tour, but it was worth the money. Unlike the other tours we had been on, this was very factual about events that happened and if appropriate, the current interactions that followed. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and tailored the tour to us. We went a lot of areas that the others didn't. We were taking the train back to Liverpool that evening and he even walked us back to the train station. If you are wanting an authentic, historical tour - this is the one to take.

The ghost tour exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be just a bit of fun, but it was far more than that. John is a true expert. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about York's history - everything is well-researched, and doesn't feel forced or scripted - in fact, I had the feeling that he could have carried on for several more hours and still not covered everything he knows about the history of York and its wider significance. He delivers it all in an interesting way, with the right mix of serious discussion and fascinating stories, to satisfy both your curiosity and your imagination! We took his tour the night of our arrival into York and it absolutely made the trip, as we then went around everything in the daytime the next day with a proper appreciation of what we were seeing. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. It's the best tour either me or my boyfriend have ever been on, anywhere.

Everyone on our tour enjoyed it a great deal. Our guide was John and his knowledge of history was unbelievable. My kids, our mothers, and my husband and I all thought he did a great job of keeping everyone engaged. The only thing I'd say could be improved is to have a few more ghost stories in the mix of stories there were really only a handful. That being said, it was a great experience.

We met John and had a long and informative Ghost and History walk of York. I know it says ghost tour, but John knows a lot of York history. We walked for 3 hours and it seemed fast except for my tired feet. You won't be disappointed with this tour
