Itinerary

Day 1: ZAGREB - VARAŽDIN

Stop At: Old Castle (Stari Grad), Varazdin, Varazdin County, Central Croatia
Midevial feudal fortress, known as Old town Varaždin since the ancient times, is admired for its extraordinary beauty along with its national cultural importance. This fascinating castle is the largest and most tresured jewel of the romantic, baroque town located along the coast of Drava river. During the guided tour through the impressive castle we will already feel the presence of its heavenly guardians.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Muzej Andjela, Varazdin, Varazdin County, Central Croatia
After a walk through the streets and small squares exhibiting old forgotten arts and crafts, and enjoying the warmth of Varaždin’s characteristic illusionist architecture, we are yet to discover why it is called "the City where the Angels sleep” while trying to get to know them and even prove their existance.

Stop At: Varazdin cemetery, Varazdin, Varazdin County, Central Croatia
We’ll meet a Croatian prominenet visual artist right in his art studio, before taking time off to experience the city individually. (our recommendation for free-time: an exceptional landmark - the cemetary, noted as one of (if not the most!) beautiful “eternal homes” in Europe)

Day 2: VARAŽDIN - TRAKOŠĆAN - GREŠNE GORICE - VELIKI TABOR - SRCE PRIRODE

Stop At: Trakoscan Castle (Dvor Trakoscan), Trakoscan, Varazdin County, Central Croatia
After enjoying the stunning view of its towers, the romantic lake and the idyllicly landscaped park-forest, which truly resembles the scenes from Disney fairy tales, we will also familiarize with its spotlessly preserved, luxuriant interior. As its former lords Counts Drašković were passionate photographers (they were the founders of Croatian art photography), we will honor them by using our cameras to record the most striking views, with the professional guidance of the prominent Croatian photographer.

Stop At: Dvor Veliki Tabor, Desinic, Krapina-Zagorje County, Central Croatia
After delicious domestic lunch at the charming rural household Grešne gorice, we will experience exciting exploration of Veliki Tabor’s authentic fortification architecture, admire almost unrealistic view of 333 m above sea level, as well as uncover the dark secrets of its cold stony walls.

Day 3: SRCE PRIRODE - RIBNIK - OZALJ - SRCE PRIRODE

Stop At: Stari grad Ribnik
Another magnificent piece of medieval architecture, built by the noble Duces of Frankopan in the late 14th century, is a rare example of wasserburg (literaly: a castle in the water). It is a crime not to stop by the Ribnik Castle and listen to its calm, green surroundings mysteriousely whispering about its secret passages, walls, and dark dungeons.

Stop At: The Castle of Ozalj, Karlovac, Karlovac County, Central Croatia
Old Town of Ozalj, apart from its astonishing beauty and greatness, steals the attention of castle lovers particulary for its amazing variety of architectural styles. Unlike the cursed ones, the dreamy Ozalj castle dazzles with an unexplicable inspirative energy. With the help of a short creative writing course, just here in Ozalj castle’s palaces, we will try our own literal expression.

Stop At: Hotel Srakovcic Heart of Nature
After a home-made lunch in a widely celebrated authenticly domestic restaurant, and a visit to local beekeeper along with tasting the sweetest eco honey products, we will gather in a cosy atmosphere of indigenous wine cellar and toast to the beautiful quiet night in a warm rural household.

Day 4: SRCE PRIRODE - BOSILJEVO - SENJ - SELCE

Stop At: Dvorac Bosilje/ Stari grad Bosiljevo, Bosiljevo, Karlovac County, Central Croatia
At the entrance to the mountanios region of Croatia, the Northern gate of the Adriatic, there is a small settlement called Bosiljevo. In the wilderness that encircled it, hidden from the curious gaze, a castle rose on the very edge of a sharp cliff. As unreal as in fairy tales, this Medieval giant once glittered like a rare pearl lost in the pristine peace of the powerful nature.

Stop At: Nehaj Castle, Senj, Lika-Senj County
Nehaj fortress is a recognizable symbol of the windy town of Senj, the oldest town of the North Adriatic coast. As if it made a pact with both the mighty bora and baffling clouds, the stunning view from its top grant us with a distant panoramic sight - as distant as eye can see. After guided tour we will enjoy our citadel lunch right inside its tower.

Day 5: SELCE - KARLOVAC - ZAGREB

Stop At: Dubovac Castle, Karlovac, Karlovac County, Central Croatia
The Old Town of Dubovac is one of the most beautiful and best preserved monuments of Karlovac architecture. Its viewpoint reveals a fantastic sight over lovely scenery, and a permenant exhibition of the City Museum in its highest tower. In addition to exploring the beautiful castle we will peek into the beauty of the old city core - Karlovac Star, the hexagonal fortification architecture dating 16th century, featuring elements of the Renaissance "Ideal City”.
