Pemba Island, known as "The Green Island" lies within the Swahili Coast in the Indian Ocean about 50 kilometers north of Unguja, the largest island in the archipelago. Pemba is home to several dive sites, with steep drop-offs, untouched coral and very abundant marine life.

Meals: D,B

Accommodation: Misali Sunset Resort

Day 4, 5 & 6

On leisure at Pemba Island on Bed and Breakfast. There is an option to do a tour of Pemba towns or go to Misali island for snorkeling and diving.

Most of the island, which is hillier and more fertile than Unguja, is dominated by small scale farming. There is also large scale farming of cash crops such as cloves. There is a quite large Arab community on the island, who immigrated from Oman. The population is a mix of Arab and original Waswahili inhabitants of the island. A significant portion of the population also identifies as Shirazi people.

The most important towns in Pemba are Chake-Chake (the capital), Mkoani, and Wete, which is the largest city. Pemba is, with the exception of a strip of land along its eastern coast, a very fertile place: besides clove trees, the locals grow mainly rice, coconut, bananas, cassava and red beans (called maharagwe in the Swahili language).

Zanzibar is a wonderful destination. Zanzibar City and Unguja island was all right. Was very nice at Nungwi beach and Nakupenda, the sand bank near Stone town 20 minutes by boat . Now, about our hotel in Pemba Island- Sunset Misali Hotel was not the very best choice. This hotel is situated not on a real beach, more like a lake beach with green/brown waters, poor breakfast and limited dinner. One has nothing to do at Sunset Misali Hotel. We took a trip from the hotel every day. We got not very good value for the trips booked from the hotel: on trip to Misali Island the boatmen didn't speek english at all, and for the second trip journey to the North of the island we got a guide that was a beginner in his job. A special remark for Khamisi - a very nice guide. I recommend Khamisi if you want to discover Pemba Island. He will do fantastic trips and he knows every hidden beach, every corner of this lovely spot on the Indian Ocean.
