About this activity
Stroll along the historic streets of Arequipa and visit the Monastery de Santa Catalina. Built in 1580, it is considered to be South America's most unique monastery. The White City opens up its doors on a tour that begins in the beautiful colonial quarter of San Lazaro, where Arequipa was founded. From here, we will walk along the city's picturesque streets adorned with geraniums before heading to the Carmen Alto viewpoint, where we will be able to admire the beautiful landscape of farming terraces and Arequipa's three guardian volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. We will then continue to the colonial district of Yanahuara, famous for its church built in the Andalusian style and its viewpoint surrounded by sillar stone arches. Afterward, we will move on to the Monastery de Santa Catalina, an impressive religious monument that was once closed to the public for nearly 400 years. Its narrow streets, plazas, and gardens remind us of ancient Seville or Granada. Finally, we will head to Arequipa's Main Square, where we will be able to see the Cathedral and the arches that surround the plaza, before visiting the Church of the Company of Jesus. Founded by Jesuits in the 17th century, the church stands out for its cloisters and famous Saint Ignacio Dome.
