About this activity
Ooty is an incredible hills station which was established by the British colonial regime in the early 19th century. Located in the Nilgiri Mountains, often called the Blue Mountains, the city is sometimes enveloped in a mysterious blue haze.

Today, an indefinable touch of the British Raj lingers in its cottages, its colourful gardens, winding lanes, old churches, and lakes surrounded by groves of eucalyptus trees. A fine retreat from the heat of the plains, Ooty offers both, some scenic beauty and a relaxed serene ambience.

On this tour, you will visit the Botanical Gardens of Ooty. Spread over 55 acres, the Botanical Gardens were laid out in 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale. These gardens have about a thousand varieties of both exotic and indigenous - plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, medicinal and bonsai plants. Every year in the month of May, a flower show is organized here which is a tourist attraction.

You will also be taken to explore the nearby hills including the Dadabetta Peak, which is the highest in the Nilgiris and Wenlock Downs, an undulating countryside, just outside Ooty. Ooty is also known for its tea and coffee plantations which you will have the chance to visit. Here, your guide will focus on explaining the process of production.
