Pass By: University of Otago, 362 Leith Street, Dunedin 9016 New Zealand

Welcome to the 'Edinburgh of the South'! Come with us to explore this scenic, historic and very friendly corner of New Zealand. After meeting you at Port Chalmers (Dunedin's port) we travel past New Zealand's first university. Founded in 1869 with 3 professors, now home to over 20,000 students.

Stop At: Dunedin Railway Station, 3074332, Dunedin, 9016, New Zealand

Next we take you to what some say is New Zealand's most photographed building - the Dunedin Railway Station. This Edwardian Baroque masterpiece was once New Zealand's busiest station and was lavishly constructed when the city was rich with gold. See the intricate mosaic floors in the booking hall, and admire the detailed facade.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: The Octagon, Dunedin 9016 New Zealand

We then see the beating heart of Dunedin City - the Octagon. Perhaps grab a coffee (own cost) and admire several of Dunedin's significant buildings, or view the Robert Burns statue which is a nod to the city's Scottish heritage.

Duration: 15 minutes

Pass By: Otago Peninsula, Dunedin New Zealand

Amazing scenery then awaits as we travel out on the bottom section of Otago Peninsula. Enjoy quaint bays and waterside views as we travel along the low road. We then take the high road up to Larnach Castle, which afford panoramic views over the city and harbour below.

Stop At: Larnach Castle & Gardens, 145 Camp Rd Otago Peninsula, Dunedin New Zealand

Next is what many view as the highlight of the tour - Larnach Castle. Explore the history and intrigue of the sprawling homestead - lovingly restored high on the Otago Peninsula. Constructed in the 1870's, this grandiose home was constructed and furnished with the finest materials from around the world. Today - you can admire the period furniture, take in the views from the lookout tower, and explore the gardens which are designated 'A Garden of International Significance'. We also have time here to enjoy a bite to eat in the ballroom (at your cost).

Duration: 2 hours

Pass By: St Clair Beach, Dunedin 9012 New Zealand

The drive back to port takes a very scenic route. See the rugged southern coast of Dunedin as we wind our way back to the city. Spot surfers out on the chilly waves - straight from Antarctica!

Stop At: Signal Hill Road, Dunedin New Zealand

To see where we've been for the day we travel up to the Signal Hill lookout. Get fantastic photos of Dunedin city, Otago Peninsula and Otago Harbour from up high.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Baldwin Street: The Steepest Street in the World, Baldwin Street, Dunedin 9010 New Zealand

Our usual last stop is one of Dunedin's most famous locations - the steepest street in the world! Test yourself to see how far up you can walk! And make sure you get an optical illusion photograph!

Duration: 20 minutes

Despite a disparity in the time we were advised our coach would pick us up (30 mins later than advised) our driver was excellent and gave us a wonderful tour of the highlights in and around Dunedin with a tremendous amount of local knowledge and history provided and we returnedf to our cruise liner having thoroughly enjoyed our day with him.

This was a jam packed day. Brian our guide was great. I was disappointed that we didnt have enough time to do the tour at the Halveston House but we did see the Royal Albatross nesting. It was a group of 8 in a comfortable van. So much better than a giant tour bus. Perfect shore excursion for cruise ship passengers. Brian was waiting for us in the cruise terminal and got us back in plenty of time .

Did not take tour with Viator. Delay in leaving ship , driver left pier. We received help with an agent at pier who assisted our group with obtaining another tour guide.
