Sarajevo DayTrip from Mostar

Pick-up at your accommodation in the morning and then departure from Mostar. We have a couple of hours driving to Sarajevo, following the river Neretva most of the way. Upon arrival to Sarajevo, we'll be met by our local licensed guide who'll take us for a city tour of Sarajevo's center.

Our starting point for the city tour is at the City Hall. Built in the late 19th century, it served as the city hall until 1949 when it was transformed into the National Library. It was destroyed in August 1992, and at that point it held over 1.5 million volumes, of which 155,000 were rare and valuable. Sadly, most of the books could not be saved. The City Hall was rebuilt over the course of nearly 20 years after the war finished, and reopened in 2014. Next we move on to Gazi Husrev-bey’s mosque. Built in 16th century, it is the largest historical mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the most representative Ottoman structures in the Balkans. Being the central Sarajevan mosque since the days of its construction, today it also serves as the main congregational mosque of the Islamic community of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our next stop is in the courtyard of the Sarajevo synagogue. It was constructed in 1902 and remains the only functioning synagogue in Sarajevo today. This synagogue is an Ashkenazi one – there used to be a Sephardi synagogue as well – however it was destroyed during WWII. We continue through the Autro-Hungarian part of town, and arrive in front of the Catholic cathedral – the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The cathedral has been built in the late 19th century, and has been damaged during the war in the 90’s. However, it was not completely destroyed and has been restored since. Right after the catholic cathedral we go see the orthodox cathedral - he Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos. The cathedral was built in the mid -19th century and is the largest orthodox church in Sarajevo – and one of the largest in the Balkans. Our final stop is in front of the Museum of Sarajevo’s main building. After the tour we have some free time for lunch – trying ćevapčići in Sarajevo is a must!

After free time for lunch and individual activities, we'll say farewell to Sarajevo and arrive to Mostar safely a few hours later.
