Agrigento Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale Tour from Palermo

1 day
About this activity
Meet your driver at 8:30am in Palermo city center. Together, you’ll head toward the comune of Piazza Armerina, roughly 2.5 hours away.
Here, you’ll visit Villa Romana del Casale on your own. Pay your entrance fee direct, and head inside to explore the 4th-century villa that was revealed in its entirety after 20th-century excavations. A great example of a luxury home for the ancient Roman elite, the villa is home to some well-preserved Roman mosaics that are spread around the site.
After spending up to 1.5 hours inside the villa, you’ll travel onward to a local restaurant for a light meal including a first course, water, and coffee. More food is available at your own expense.
Continue on a 2-hour journey to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. Pay your admission direct, then head inside the UNESCO-listed archaeological site to wander amid the temples of Hera, Concordia, Hercules, and Zeus at leisure. According to legend, Agrigento was founded by the Greek myths of Daedalus and Icarus when they fled from Crete by air. Historically though, the site was founded by a Rhodian-Cretan colonist who named the city Akragas after the nearby river.
Learn about the site’s history under different rulers and tyrants as you explore, and discover how Agrigento became a city of artists and other illustrious people, such as the philosopher Empedocles.
After your tour, you’ll travel back to Palermo. Your tour ends around 7:30pm.
Please note: If you are in a group of 6 people or more, a guide is provided at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.

I don't even know where to start, both sites were amazing, Villa Romana is breathtaking, still a mistery why it was built there, wonderful sights on the way. Agrigento with the Valley of the Temples is stunning, our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable, we had a delicious light lunch, overall it was the highlight of our trip to Sicily.

This was a wonderful trip. A long day that was well worth it. Saw a lot of Sicily on the road to our destinations. Our lunch of antipasto was fresh, tasty and filling. We had just the right amount of time at each site. Our tour guide Josefina was incredibly knowledgeable, informative and engaging. She went above and beyond!
