Interpretive Hike with a Bighorn Biologist to Look for Sheep

About this activity

You will hike with a Bighorn Institute biologist in sheep habitat to look for the elusive Peninsular bighorn sheep. We will bring telemetry equipment to possibly track a radio-collared bighorn on our hike, but primarily, we will be glassing the hills for bighorn during our hike. You will learn how we conduct our fieldwork, what information we gather, and have any and all of your bighorn sheep questions answered by a bighorn biologist.

We will meet in the morning at an agreed upon time at a local hiking trail that will give us the best opportunity to see sheep. Your personal biologist guide will go over a brief description of these sheep and our work prior to the hike and will discuss more detail along the hike while glassing for the sheep.

The hike will last 1-4 hours depending on the location and length of the hike, whether or not sheep are observed, etc. Each hiker should bring: a pack with at least 2 liters of water per person and snacks, closed-toed hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and a camera and binoculars (if you have them). We request that you do not wear white clothes and dogs are not allowed (no exceptions).

All hike participants are required to sign a liability waiver in order to participate (provided at meeting location).
