About this activity

Can You imagine four years of siege? Four long years without basic supplies, four years under the bombs, four years with no sun in the sky? Visiting the main war points will tell you the story – No words needed. Sarajevo was under the occupation for a very long time and marks of it are still visible all around the city. Those marks are a great reminder of what should never happen again.

Sarajevo was completely blocked from each side during the siege. Since there was no way to get out of the city and get basic existence supplies, some kind of solution had to be provided. That is exactly what happened!

On this tour you will hear the story about how Sarajevo survived the great siege. In addition to the story you’ll visit the places and see items that were collected during the war.

The tour starts from Invicta Travel office. On the way to the Tunnel Museum the tour guide will tell you about the fall of Yugoslavia and Bosnian Independence. On the drive through the city you will see one of the points of the biggest massacre that happened in 1994 and 1995; the Markale marketplace. You’ll also see the famous Sniper Alley, and hear stories of people running over this street. On the way you'll also stop at a memorial for children killed during the Siege.

At the Museum you will see a map of the Siege and a short movie about shelling the city and the construction of the Tunnel. During a one-hour visit you’ll find out how and why the tunnel was dug, how long it took, but most importantly you’ll understand what it meant for the people of Sarajevo.

On the drive back to the city you’ll visit the Republic of Srpska entity, to see and hear the stories about invisible borders. Next stop will be at the famous Old Jewish Cemetery which was the front line during the war and was used as an artillery positon by Bosnian Serbs. The Yellow Fortress will leave you breathless offering an amazing view of Sarajevo.

You’ll stop for a short break at Vidikovac view point, where you can drink Bosnian coffee or beer. The view is magnificent. The last stop will be Olympic complex, with its cemetery from the 90’s. You will hear the story about Olympic games held in 1984.
