About this activity
This tour will start with a short drive from our meeting place to Svinafellsjökull, which is a neighbouring glacier tongue descending from the vast Vatnajökull ice cap
which covers 8% of Iceland´s land mass!

At the edge of the glacier you will learn to put on crampons and have a small briefing. With an ice axe in hand we will then embark on a 1 – 1 1/2 km guided excursion of glacier.

Your guide will be pointing out some of the fascinating features of the ice while on the hike and teaching you about some of the local geography and history.

The glacier surface and colour changes a lot depending on the time of year, but summer is the perfect time to get up on the ice and explore.

What to bring: hiking shoes with ankle support, outdoor clothes depending on weather at the time. (e.g. fleece and waterproof jacket)

Let us know if you don´t have hiking boots, these can be rented from us.

When to arrive: Please arrive at Freysnes Gas Station which is the starting point for this tour 15 minutes before the departure time.

Great hike, the guide was really knowledgeable and we got to experience the different terrains. It was a highlight of our trip for sure. Two issues though, with Viator, not the local tour company: first, not sure this should be rated as easy, as it can be quite challenging at times; second, the time was wrong, this started at 1030, not 930.
