On Tuesday 4 June I and two Japanese gentlemen joined Laurent on the Alsace Wine Route. What made this tour special was the opportunity to visit family wineries and taste some superb Alsace wines. A standout were the wines of the Family Blanck and I also enjoyed very much the wines of Sylvie Spielmann and her passionate approach to the wines she makes. Laurent was an excellent guide and very kind to me personally. My mother’s forebears originated from Alsace and her father was born in Sermersheim. It meant a great deal to me that Laurent was prepared to make the small detour from the main highway so that we could drive through Sermersheim on the return to Strasbourg. I am travelling on my own and pI did not feel confident to hire a car. This meant that I could not visit Sermersheim as there is no bus service and the train does not stop there. It meant so much to me to see the town of my grandfather’s birth even if very briefly. Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to Laurent. Beautiful Alsace, top quality wines for which Alsace is renowned and my grandfather’s village. Who could ask for anything more. Thank you for a special day.
