About this activity
Our WRJ representative is excited to pick you up from your hotel lobby to take you on a historic trip down the lanes of Gujarat's largest city, Ahmedabad. We begin our trip on a cheery note with a visit to the marvellous Siddi Sayed Mosque, popular among the locals as the 'Siddi Saiyyed ni Jaali', a reference made to the mosque's intricate lattice work. The carved lattice on the western wall windows have contributed to Ahmedabad's popularity as a tourist destination. The entire design of the mosque depicts a tree with delicately intertwining branches hewn in solid stone. We then proceed to, what was the largest mosque, in the Indian subcontinent in the 15th century, the iconic Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad. The mosque, a stupendous example of extravagant artistry, is built with beautiful yellow sandstone, on a raised platform. The central dome, carved like a lotus flower, adds elegance to this magnificent monument. The mosque was intended to be used by the royals and was opened to public many centuries later. Next, we visit the 19th century Hutheesing Jain Temple, built by a rich Jain merchant in tribute to the 15th Jain Tirthankar, Shri Dharmanatha. Also see the Gandhi Ashram or Sabarmati Ashram where Mahatma Gandhi lived for 12 years. Finally, we visit the marvellous mosque and tomb complex, Sarkhej Roza, in Makarba village. This former centre of Sufi culture was the home of Sufi saint Shaikh Ahmed Ganj Baksh. We drop you to your hotel where your tour concludes.
