Stop At: Champaner, Gujarat 389360, India

Your day starts with a pick up from the hotel. Then, proceed towards Champaner & Pavagadh for full day sightseeing tour. Situated to the north east of Vadodara, at a distance of 47 kms, Champaner is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, perched at an altitude of 882 m in the Girnar hills. The former capital of Gujarat, Champaner was founded in the 8th century as the Chauhan Rajput capital. Located at the foothills of Pavagadh, it is an ancient fort well built with 6 kms long walls at the base that surrounded the civic, religious and military buildings and the complex water harvesting systems. The name Champaner is derived from the Champa tree or the Champaraja, a contemporary of King Vanraj Chavda of Anhilwada, who founded the town. Once a beautiful structure, the entire landscape is a recognized heritage site dotted with ruins of fort walls, ruined tombs, gardens, pillars, arches, wells, and pillars. The old city is also home to remains of fine mosques and palaces that are a perfect blend of the Islamic and Hindu decoration styles, a unique style encouraged by Champaner’ s relative isolation. The three fortifications, namely the base (Champaner), the top (Pavagadh) and the area connecting both (Machi) can be easily explored during a visit to Champaner. The famous mosques in Champaner are Shehar ki Masjid, Kewada Masjid, Jami Masjid, and Nagina Masjid.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Pavagadh Fort, Pavagadh Hill 4 Km From Champaner, Champaner India

It is said that the Rajput king Vanraj Chavda established Champaner at the foot of Pavagadh in fond memory of his wise minister Champa. Later, the Patai Raval family ruled it and took care of the boundary. The folk tales say that Mahakali assumed the form of a woman and danced in a Garba during Navaratri. The last Patai, Jaisinh watched her with dirty looks. The deity became angry at Jaisinh and cursed him that the town will fall. The Muslim emperor of Gujarat, Mahmud Begada assaulted Pavagadh and won the hill on the boundary in the 15th century.

Patai was defeated and killed. Mahmud Begada shifted his capital from Ahmedabad to Champaner for some time for reasons of diplomacy. He developed the town by constructing buildings such as the fort of Champaner, Uohra mosque, Mandavi, Kirtistambh, the temple of Shalkh, Jama Masjid, Nagina Mosque, and Kevda Mosque. The remains of the Palace of Begada are still found near Vad Talav (Banyan Pond) two kilometers (1.25 miles) away from Champaner by road.

Later, you will be driven back to the city hotel, in your AC vehicle
