Sightseeing of Ahmedabad

Your WRJ private guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby to take you on a day-long tour of the historic city of Ahmedabad. Begin your day with a visit to the Sarabhai Foundation Galleries, established by Sarladevi and Ambalal Sarabhai to promote science, art, and literature. The Sarabhai foundation also offered financial aid and supported the then loss-stricken, world famous, Calico Museum of Textiles (closed on Wednesdays and Public Holidays). See the collections of sacred bronzes of South India, Jaina textiles, manuscripts, sculptures and ritual objects. Also see Indian miniature paintings in the museum. After this, we head to the magnificent Siddi Saiyed Mosque, a fine specimen of Mughal architecture in Ahmedabad, known for its delicate lattice work and intricately carved stone windows. We continue our tour of Ahmedabad with a visit to the iconic 14th century Jama Masjid, built in yellow sandstone by Ahmed Shah I. The mosque was the largest in the Indian subcontinent during the time. Also visit the stunning 19th century Hutheesing Jain Temple and the elaborated crafted 15th century Dada Harir Stepwell. Designed to store water and provide a resting place for travellers, this underground construction was built by Bai Harir Sultani. No trip to Ahmedabad can be concluded without a visit to Gandhi Ashram. We also stop by Sidi Bashir mosque featuring the 'jhulta minar' or shaking minarets before heading back to your hotel where your tour concludes.
