About this activity
• Board the ropeway with the guide and walk to the observation deck at the summit of the mountain where you can enjoy the wonderful view of the entirety of Onomichi.
• Stroll down from the top of the mountain to Senkoji Temple at the base of the mountain with the guide.
• On the descent, you will come across many beautiful sights, including articles of “Bungaku no Komichi”, a series of 25 literary works carved into the naturally-occurring boulders along the path.
• Although there is a fee of ¥100 for the fortune-telling at the temple, a small golden figurine of the Seven Lucky Gods is included.
• Near the main hall of the temple you can experience traditional Japanese religious customs by moving the rope of the large “108 Afflictions” Buddhist prayer beads.

・The location for lunch is a restaurant frequented by Japanese locals where you will be treated to an array of traditional Japanese dishes.

・The guide will show you how to best enjoy your traditional Japanese meal.

・If you have any dietary requirements due to allergy or religion, please let us know when you book our tour.

・Desserts will be served at the Nogaku theatre, only a two-minute walk away.

・“Nogaku” (or “Noh”), a traditional Japanese style of theatre passed down through the ages, is considered the oldest form of theatre still widely practiced today and was designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.

・A Nogaku actress and instructor will guide you through the Nogaku theatre.

・Within the theatre, the instructor will explain in an easily understood manner the worldview of Noh theatre and such elements as the construction of the stage, an integral facet of Nogaku performance.

・You will be instructed in and invited to try for yourself certain elements of Noh performance such as the peculiar manner of projecting your voice and the principles that determine which movements can be considered beautiful in Nogaku.

・The English speaking guide will be present during this part of the tour as well to provide assistance as needed.

・Finally, you will be treated to a roughly five minute performance, the highlight of Noh theatre.

・The total duration of stay at the Nogaku theatre will be 30 minutes.

・From the theatre, you will head via taxi to the final destination of the tour, Tomonoura.

・From here, you will have total freedom to explore as you please for approximately 1 hour.

・Upon arrival, you will be given an electronic Audio Guide and map to assist with your exploration.

・The electronic Audio Guide also offers the English, Chinese and Korean language options and can guide you to some 62 notable locations in Tomonoura.

・Notably, Tomonoura was featured in both foreign and domestic films, serving as the filming location for “The Wolverine” starring Hugh Jackman, as well as being the inspiration for the setting in the popular Studio Ghibli animation “Ponyo on the Cliff”.

・The port town depicted in Ponyo on the Cliff is said to have been modelled after Tomonoura.

・ After around 1 hour of free exploration, you will reconvene with the English guide/driver who will provide transport back to Shin-Onomichi Station, thus concluding the tour.
