About this activity
After hotel pickup, depart Vientiane in your private car or minivan for a full-day excursion to Nam Ngum Reservoir, located about 62 miles (100 km) away. Drinking water and a cold towel are provided for your comfort in the air-conditioned vehicle.
On the way, you'll stop at a H'mong village to visit the market and meet the local residents. Then make another stop at the archaeological site of Vang Xang, which was built during the H'mong-Khmer Empire between the 8th and 11th centuries. Once you've explored with personalized commentary by your guide, continue on to the reservoir around lunchtime. A provided lunch will be served at the boat restaurant on Nam Ngum Lake. After lunch, embark on a boat ride and visit some fishing villages among the islands.
En route back to Vientiane, see a traditional salt abstraction site at Ban Keun and make a stop at Dong Mark Khai Market for a look around. You'll return to Vientiane in the late afternoon, with drop-off at your hotel.
