About this activity
Cozumel, surrounded by the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, is as much influenced by the Mayan and Spanish roots of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as it is the cultures and cuisine of the Caribbean. During this small-group food tour, indulge in the local fare of the island, where you’re always within arm’s reach of something tasty.

Meet your food-savvy guide downtown and board the minivan en route to small, off-the-beaten-path eateries and food stalls. Start with a favorite snack of Mexican empanadas before moving on to tacos stuffed with fish fresh from Cozumel’s shores. You can wash it down with a cold cerveza.

Visit an open-air market for an introduction to regional produce, spices and other ingredients used in Yucatecan cuisine. After witnessing the bustle of shoppers, your guide stops at a neighborhood family-run restaurant, called a cocina economica, for simple but delicious home-style fare.

Finally, top off your 5-hour food tour with tastes of various sweet pastries at a traditional Mexican bakery. Sip agua fresca —a nonalcoholic fresh fruit juice blended with sugar and water — or enjoy refreshing cola or lemonade. End with return transport downtown and take delight in just having taken a huge bite out of Cozumel.

This food tour was awesome! Our guide Gerardo was knowledgable, funny and helpful. We tried so many delicious foods that we we wouldn't have been able to find on our own as well as visiting a local market to learn more about the common produce of the area. The driver, David, was also very kind and a professional and safe driver. Take this tour if you are interested in trying the authentic food of the area. It's the best food tour we've taken!

So much food, and so nice to escape the tourist strip and crowds. Everything was yummy, easy to get to the meeting point from a cruise ship, overall well worth it! Enjoyed the time with our guide, Jerry, too.

We met our guide Gerry at the Mega grocery store. There were 3 in my group and a family of 4 was there also. We made several stops and tasted fresh, authentic regional food. Gerry was very entertaining and informative. One of our stops was at the market (Mercado) to see all the fresh ingredients they have to choose from. Our last stop was at a bakery for some sweets. Can't go wrong there! Our favorite food was the pork slow cooked in banana leaves. Would definitely recommend this tour, and I will go again next time I visit Cozumel.

What a terrific experience!! We tried food that we would not have otherwise and saw a part of Cozumel that few people have the pleasure of seeing. Gerry is an amazing guide who is informative and loves his country and the food that is a part of his culture. Everyone should give this tour a try.

This was an amazing tour. The food was different from the usual fare and it was all great. Our guide Gerry was both funny and full of information about food and the area. Six of us were suppose to go, three got sick that morning and could not make it their loss. Viator worked with me and refunded their money. We will try it again with the rest of the group. We will be using Viator again in the future.
